Someday, I’d like to quit my job and have my own business. Someday, I’d like to go back to the Philippines, and be with my family.
Someday, I’d like to travel and see the world. Someday, I’d like to retire rich.
We all have those “someday” things.
You know those big dreams that we hope to attain in the future; those goals that seem so impossible to reach; those wishes that we hope would come true someday?
Yes, those “someday” things. That’s what we’re here to talk about…
Rainy Days and Mondays
Manic Mondays was an all too familiar feeling for me when I was still working in the corporate world.
I was one of those people who dreaded Sunday nights because waking up early in the morning to prepare for work is not exactly one of my favorite things to do.
And waking up to a rainy day is worse! It was a sure sign that I’ll be in a lazy and grumpy mood all day.
Those times, I’d often say to myself, “Someday, I’d be able to sleep, and wake up whenever I want. Someday, I won’t have to go to work anymore, and I can choose to just stay in bed and watch television all day.”
That was my “someday”… and my reality today. How I managed to do that is what this next story is about.
Scrambled Eggs For Breakfast
Brewed coffee, toast, strawberry jam, butter and fluffy scrambled eggs – that’s my typical breakfast back then. Delicious, filling, and more importantly, easy to prepare.
Just ten minutes in the kitchen and I’m already out eating on the dining table while listening to my favorite morning radio show.
However, if I choose to lay in bed “five more minutes” that morning, I’m sure I’d be drinking instant coffee, and eating soggy fried rice, runny eggs, and oily luncheon meat for breakfast at the office cafeteria.
It was a choice I had to make everyday back – wake up early, and prepare a delicious first meal; or sleep a few minutes more and have a mediocre breakfast at work.
If you were in my situation, which one would you have chosen most of the time?
We all have our “someday” things. And if you want to make them come true, you have to wake up early enough to prepare your own breakfast.
You have to choose the one that requires time and effort, rather than the one which is simply comfortable and convenient.
It is a choice:
- Between writing a business plan, or watching television
- Between reading about investments, or playing your favorite Facebook game
- Between doing freelance work, or hanging out with friends
It is a decision that you make every day. And your choices today, will determine if your “someday” will come.
Make your “someday” come.
