Updated: December 20, 2014
It was 2001 when I first opened an account with a stock broker. I deposited P10,000 with big hopes that I could turn it into a million pesos in a few months.
I certainly believed it was possible, because the stock market is one of the best places to grow your money – at least that’s what I heard back then.
After opening my account, I joined internet forums and online groups to get tips on what companies I should buy, at what price, and when I should sell my shares.
Six months passed, and after suffering from consecutive losses from following those “expert tips” online, I was left with only P2,000 in my account.
I withdrew my money from my broker and swore to myself that I will never invest in the stock market again.
The Wedding
Two years later, in 2003, I attended the wedding of a college friend. I remember that day like it was yesterday because it was one of the most expensive weddings I’ve attended.
There were hundreds of guests, the bride wore a designer gown, the reception was at a five-star hotel, there were overflowing champagne – it was awesome!
However, the most memorable part of that day for me was the speech of the best man during the dinner party.
He said, “I’d like to start my toast by saying thank you to the Philippine Stock Exchange, who made it possible for my brother to afford this great wedding…”
Yes, and to make the long story short – my friend made a lot of money in the stock market, which helped him make her bride’s dream wedding come true.
Suffice to say, that was the moment when I decided to give the stock market one more try. And since then, my simple portfolio has passively more than doubled in value.

Why I Lost Money The First Time
It’s now easy for me to say the reason why I lost money in the stock market back in 2001. And that reason was because I invested in something that I didn’t know.
I thought that all I needed to do to make money in the stock market was to open an account and simply copy what those “online experts” are doing.
I thought that it didn’t matter anymore if I actually understood how the stock market works, because I can just follow the tips and recommendations that are available online, and I’m sure to make money.
Of course, that was a mistake – a mistake that cost me P8,000 back in 2001.
Unfortunately, for some… the loss is a lot more… so much more.

Stock Market Investing For Beginners Webinar
UPDATE:
A big thank you to everyone who registered for the webinar. If you registered and have not been receiving updates from me. Then please send an email through my contact form here. There were a few people who typed in a wrong email address and the messages I’m sending are bouncing back.
On December 20, I will be conducting this webinar where I will give a detailed explanation of how exactly the stock market works.
I decided to hold this webinar because honestly, I can no longer stand by and watch people “cry” on Facebook after losing money in the stock market, especially the OFWs.
Who should attend this webinar?
- New investors who have zero knowledge about the stock market
- OFW’s who would like to learn how to invest in the stock market
- People who have been losing money in the stock market
Who is teaching in this webinar?
My name is Fitz Villafuerte and I’m a Registered Financial Planner and author of the book, The Ready To Be Rich Guide to Investing.
I have been recognized by Moneysense Magazine as among the Top 12 Most Influential People in Personal Finance in the Philippines.
I am a resource speaker for corporate and socio-civic organizations in the country. I’ve appeared in several TV programs like ANC On The Money, where I’ve been a guest many times and talked about wealth management and investing.
The best way to know me, aside from going around my blog, is to search my name “Fitz Villafuerte” on Google and YouTube to read and watch the interviews I’ve done.

Questions that I will answer in this webinar:
- What exactly is the stock market? How does it work?
- What’s the relationship of businesses, investors and the stock market?
- How do you make money in the stock market?
- How do you avoid losing lots of money in the stock market?
- What’s the number 1 mistake that people do in the stock market?
- How do you invest in the Philippine Stock Market? What if I’m overseas?
- and many more…
What will I get after the webinar?
- Video file recording of the webinar
- Copy of the slides shown during the webinar
- Questions and answers summary from the webinar
- Bonus reference materials
- and a couple more surprise items…

Quick Questions:
What is a webinar?
It’s an online video seminar. All you need to attend is a computer, a good internet connection and speakers (so you can hear me talk). This is great because you can learn at the comfort of your own home, wherever you are.
What if I’m not available on December 20?
You can still register, because after the webinar, I will send a video copy of the presentation to all paid registrants. This will be a video file that you can watch on your computer again and again.
Is there a deadline for the registration?
Yes, I am closing the registration 1 hour before the start of the webinar.
When will this happen again?
I will do this webinar again next year in February, but it will already cost P2,500. The discounted price of P1,000 is just a holiday promo and in preparation for the official launching of my webinar trainings for next year.
Don’t Miss Out On This Opportunity
A lot of Pinoys have already made good money in the stock market from the past couple of years. A friend has actually been able to buy a real estate rental property last month from all his stock market earnings.
This webinar is a learning opportunity for you to join the club of Pinoy stock market investors. Don’t be left behind and start investing in the stock market. Your first step is to register to this webinar today.

hi po, what if im from overseas?
Hi dee… you can attend the webinar wherever you are. what country are you in?
Hello fitz, im interested but I’m overseas too. Tanong ko lang kung ang maituturo na concepts dito ay applicable din outside Phil Stock Exchange (halimbawa Toronto Stock exchange) thanks!
Hi angelica. Yes, the concepts will be applicable in all stock markets. This is a beginner’s course, so we will really discuss the basics and principles of stock market investing.
However, the companies and charts that I will use will be from the Philippines and the U.S. – but thanks for suggesting, I can include snapshots of the Toronto SE as well.
Hi Fitz, pede bang online transfer sa bpi. Then forwarded reference no.
hi, im interested to this topic but is it possible to invest in philippine stock market while working overseas,do i need a broker for that?thanks
Hi idol fitz is there a part for a Q and A portion after the discussions? what if my query is not mentioned in Q and A portion is there a possibility u will reply us thru email. thanks stewart
@kokz
yes pwede online transfer, but please send a screenshot of the transaction to the email provided
@Paul
yes it is possible, andaming OFWs na may Philippine stock market account, and yes you will need a broker, I will give a list of online brokers that you can apply to, and discuss how exactly to apply to one or two of them
@george
I’m sorry if you feel that way, the income from the webinar will be used to pay for the webinar platform subscription, and to pay for the salary of the people who help me run this website – so I can continue providing free learning through my blog articles.
@ac
There will be technical analysis but it will not be helpful for stock market traders. The webinar is all about understanding the very nature of the stock market and the factors that move it over the long-term. The main focus will be about value investing and not short-term trading.
@Stewart
Of course there will be Q and A. And all questions (those mentioned plus those that were not mentioned), will be compiled and answered and sent to all the attendees via email.
If paying in Canadian Dollars, how much is it?
pano po pag mabagal ang internet connection, magiging maayos po ba ang webinar? thanks po. from UAE.
Hi Fitz,
May I know a little of your background; Work/Company/Office Address & Telephone Number. Anything you want to share. This way I will know you first.
Included ba sa webinar about basic fundamental and technical analysis?
@Frederick
It would be around CAD 26.00 – when you pay via Paypal, the conversion is automatic at current rates.
@Shins
If you can watch YouTube videos, then maayos ang magiging experience mo sa webinar. But worst case scenario, you will receive a video file copy of the whole webinar afterwards that you can watch in your computer.
@Ronald

@Rj
Yes, it’s a lifetime access simply because the video recording and all the other files will be sent to you and available for download.
And if you have questions after, you can always send me an email through my contact form below. And of course, it’s free.
In fact, you don’t have to register for the webinar to ask me a question. I’ve been answering for free for more than 7 years now. Check out the Reader Mail section of my blog here: http://fitzvillafuerte.com/category/reader-mail
Hi, in addition to my querries above, pardon for my innocence about stock market,as an OFW is it possible not to have online broker and do it on my own effort in stock market world,my concern for having an online broker is how to assure that he/she is the trusted person for it, doing on my own will help me to develop skills and good strategy in investing stock market and not just sitting down at home waiting for luck and expectation to have a great return while it is monitored by other person instead of me. I hope you got my point.Thank you.
@Paul
There are many accredited online brokers by the Philippine Stock Exchange. These stock brokers are certified and regulated so you can fully trust them. Also, you always have full control over your account – stock brokers are merely there to give suggestions and execute your orders – they will lose their license if they act without your consent.
Hi, when is the last day of registration
Hi Fritz,
Thank you for your clarification,i believe it is worthful to join your webseminar to learn more about stock market,is there still slot available,im
planning to pay via BDO bank remitance overseas,I hope when im ready to invest you are still there to guide me and all your avid followers,as of now i dont know how this online brokers will work with an OFW and fully trust them,how to make sure they are not scam??Thanks
Hi Fitz, I am not available on the said date, but what you will be sending and the live webcast would be the same anyway?
@Yvonne
The last day would be Dec 19, but it’s possible that I’ll close it early once I have 180 registrants.
@Paul
Looking forward to teaching you during the webinar. And I can give you the contact details of my own stock brokers (I have 2) if you want, so you no longer have to look for one.
@tina
Yes! You’ll get a copy of the video replay of the actual webinar.
I like to join but I have a question, how much is the least capital in order for me to hire stock broker?
Hello sir! I’m here in Dubai can this be apply in the stock market here?
Sir,where exactly are we going to watch the webinar? And how as a registrant could i log in?
Hi Sir Fitz, my wife (Marybeth Agdon) & me (Fernando Agdon) are newly joined member of IMG thru Doc Jaime. Now, my question is it ok for me to let my wife who is in Phils simply deposit the said fee of PHP 1,000.00 to your BDO Acct on my behalf since I’m here at Riyadh, KSA. May God bless you more for your good intention for our countrymen by way of doing financial literacy seminars & blogs!!!
@Poncie Sarah
You don’t “hire” a stock broker. You open an account with a stock brokerage firm and deposit money to your account – just like what you do when opening a bank savings account. Once done, you can be your own stock broker, or have someone from the firm (a stock broker) assigned to you to give advise and execute your buy and sell orders.
The minimum deposit depends on which stock brokerage firm you choose. The lowest I know is COL Financial, where you can open an account for only P5,000 deposit.
Btw, everything I just told you will be taught in the webinar, including steps on how to open an account with several Philippine stock brokers.
@Marvin Josef
We will discuss foundational concepts of the stock market – so yes it can apply to the Dubai Financial Market. However, I will use companies in the Philippine Stock Exchange in most of my examples.
@jun
I will send you an email with a link to a website where you can watch the webinar. No need to log-in because that will automatically be done by the link that I will send you, which contains your unique webinar ID.
@Fernando Agdon
Yes, that will be fine. Just be sure to note that in the email when she sends a copy of the deposit slip. Thanks.
hi Fitz, does Stock Market has the same principles of investing like UITF with BDO? I am interested in joining your webinar but I am not sure if it’s wiser to venture in a stock market for someone like me who has zero knowlwedge about stock market or try UITF first???
@Rowena
They have similar principles. Equity UITFs actually invest in the stock market. So you’ll see that their performance are correlated.
It’s always been my advice to first learn about what you are investing in before putting money into it. So this webinar can help you in that aspect.
You can choose not to invest in the stock market immediately, but at least you already know the principles behind it and you can start whenever you’re ready.
Additionally, understanding how it works can now help you better appreciate the portfolio allocations of UTIFs and mutual funds with stock investments.
Hi Fitz, i just registered now via paypal. Just wondering how will i get the confirmation,since i didnt provide any email address.thanks
done! nag register ako kagad, without second thoughts! thank u sir fitz! excited na ako sa Saturday 🙂 btw sir, i just watched all the videos from ur most recent blog, nakaka inspire po, salamat.
@Jonas
I believe my staff has already sent you the confirmation. She sends most of them at the end of the day. It was sent to the email address you provided to Paypal. Email me if you have not received it yet so I can resend. Thanks.
@karla
Thanks for the vote of confidence. As you can see in the videos, anyone can invest in the stock market, you don’t have to be rich to start, and it can be very easy if you are properly educated about it.
hi fritz,
May I know your BDO branch

@Yana

@Eugene
Thanks for registering. I believe my staff has already sent the confirmation and instructions on how to join the webinar.

UPDATE:
A big thank you to everyone who registered for the webinar. If you registered and have not been receiving updates from me. Then please send an email through my contact form here. There were a few people who typed in a wrong email address and the messages I’m sending are bouncing back.
Hi Fritz,
I am interested to open an account on stock market and do cost averaging method,i sent an email thru [email protected],yet there is no response
I did’nt manage to ask question during the webinar,I hope you can consider to attend on my querries below.
1.If in case I want to redeem my investment say after 5 years can i immediately widraw it.
2.What if there is no buyer in either good or bad market?
3.If item 2 will happen my investment will be a mere potential or an idle?? is it?
Thanks
Hi Paul, please give them some time to reply as it is the holidays. But I will also make a personal follow-up.
To answer your questions:
1. You can redeem your funds anytime actually and the money is deposited to your bank account within 3-5 business days after you submit the fund withdrawal form. Please note that you can only withdraw the money from selling shares 3 days after.
For example, if you have P10,000 as cash balance in your account, and then you sold ALI shares which brought your cash balance up to P25,000.
The P10,000 – you can withdraw already, but the P15,000 (from selling ALI shares) can only be withdrawn 3 days after.
2. It’s rare to have zero volume (no buyers), especially if what you’re holding are premium growth stocks. But in any case, then you can’t sell them and would have to wait for a buyer.
3. Your stocks will just be in your portfolio. Zero volume means the price will not move either. Again, a rare scenario for premium growth stocks. Also, the company can decide to give out dividends, so it’s not totally idle despite having no price movements.
Number 2 and 3 shows the importance of really choosing the right companies to buy – those that are consistent in their growth as a business through the years.
Hi sir, is it possible to avail of your video from the webinar at a price? Or is it exclusive only for those who have registered?
Hi fitz pls notify me for the feb seminar. I can relate to your story, I had just started an online account and I am at a loss on what to do… Pls send ito to [email protected]
Will you be conducting this webinar again anytime soon?
