Last weekend, I was in Iloilo for the Visayas Blogging Summit 2010 where I gave a talk on the “101 Ways To Make Money Through Blogging“.
I’d like to share with you today a part of my presentation where I taught the audience the three things that a blogger must do if he really wants to earn good income online.
I emphasized three basic strategies the one must learn and develop, in order to create substantial and long-term income opportunities through their blogs.
The three strategies are:
- A content development strategy that works with your lifestyle.
- A blog marketing strategy that delivers traffic.
- An income strategy that fits your audience.
CONTENT DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
Primarily, one needs to write about the things they are passionate about – topics which interests them and which they can take the time to research and learn.
But more than that, they must choose to develop content that has commercial value – a niche that has potential advertisers and business opportunities.
BLOG MARKETING STRATEGY
Content may be king, but marketing is the queen. Analyze your blog content and seek out your target audience.
In today’s social web, driving traffic to your blog is no longer limited to SEO or search engine optimization. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Yahoo! Answers, forums and many other online social media can be utilized to promote your blog.
There are hundreds of ways to make money online. Do not limit yourself to Google Adsense, paid posts, text link ads or whatever else other bloggers say as profitable online money makers.
Analyze your content and your audience and find the right income opportunities that fits your community. I’ve met bloggers who are making lots of money from less popular advertising networks and a few who have been able to create profitable real-life businesses through their blogs.
Lastly, one must understand that this is not a linear process but a cyclic process.
After doing your content, marketing and income strategies – there is a need to observe and analyze the results.
And depending on your long-term blogging goals, these results will dictate if there’s a need for you to develop new type of content, explore new marketing channels and try new income opportunities.
Furthermore, always remember that making money through blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes time and dedication before one can realize good profits – so be patient, work hard, but also – have fun writing.
Below is a revised copy of my presentation during the Visayas Blogging Summit. I encourage you to go through the slides and give special attention to the examples I’ve given towards the end.
