“Your network is your net worth,” says internationally known public speaker, networker, and entrepreneur Porter Gale.
Many people probably hear this quote but rarely act upon it simply because they don’t know how to network or connect.
That’s why I’d like to share a few tips I’ve learned over the years on how to really connect.

Be proactive in putting yourself where you get a chance to meet others!
Most people spend time in online communities like FB groups or forums, hoping to land a meaningful relationship. However, because everyone is doing it, the quality of the people you meet can be unpredictable.
That’s why events where there is usually a ticket price, or sometimes even ‘by-invite-only,’ can be powerful and rare networking opportunities.
This is the same reason why I recommend attending seminars and conferences. It is also the reason why I am openly sharing about the upcoming National Achievers Congress this August 23 and 24. I know people who will attend there are not just business owners but those who are willing to invest in themselves, too!
Get clear on how you introduce yourself.
It can be nerve-wracking getting to know strangers during in-person events. That’s why, prior to the event, it’s helpful to get clear on how you’d introduce yourself. Here’s a simple script:
Hi, I’m _____. I help [your target clients] [benefit you give them] by [what you do].
Examples:
Hi, I’m John. I’m a corporate tax consultant who helps business owners legally save on taxes.
Hi I’m Marie, I help parents secure their future for their children through financial planning.
Hi, I’m Carla. Through my seminars, I help corporations with 100 or more employees become more productive at work.
If you do a lot of things, resist the temptation to mention all of them, as it will only confuse the person you’re speaking with. Keep your introduction to one single thing so it’s easy for you to get to know others!
Help others connect with others.
It can be scary getting to know others, especially if you have a goal of possibly meeting your next partner in business for collaborations or possibly those who can become a client. And if you’re feeling this way, recognize that you are not alone.
That’s why, if you’d like to really leave a lasting and positive impression on EVERYONE you meet during the event, the goal is to help them connect with others, too!
You can do this by asking:
So, who are you looking to meet at these events?
And when you’ve already met someone like that, introduce them to each other!
Happy networking!
P.S. If you’d like to practice these tips, an upcoming event that’s guaranteed to have high-quality people would be the National Achievers Congress! And since the event is two days long, you can deepen a relationship the following day!
