What Would You Do If You Knew You Could Not Fail?

Updated: January 23, 2023

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

It’s a popular question that inspirational and motivational speakers ask their listeners. But it was American televangelist and author, Robert H. Schuller, who is known to have first asked this question.

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

It is a very challenging question and when you search yourself for an answer, you might initially come up with some very ambitious and interesting thoughts like “Find a cure for cancer.” or “Build a car that runs on water.” or even “Solve all world conflicts and initiate world peace.”

Think about the question once more, but this time also ask yourself:

What are the things I’ve always wanted to do but I’m afraid of the consequences if I fail?

Your answers become more personal, isn’t it?

Linger on the thought and start to daydream. I know a hint of excitement will come to you. A smile begins to show on your face. You start to imagine how it feels like to achieve such goals in your life.

But then you begin to think that it’s all just in your mind and reality checks in.

Feelings of fear and inadequacy begin to creep in and you say to yourself, “No, it won’t work.” or “Now if only I had the time and money to do that.”

You might even say, “That dream is too big for me.” or “I’m not good enough.”

When you say such things, you’re simply letting your fears take over.

Go back and think about that perfect dream again. This time, let the good feelings fully take control.

Did you notice that when you take the fear of failure out of the equation, you become more creative and you really begin to see a world of possibilities?

Hold on to that and write down those thoughts on paper.

Afterward, ask yourself, “How do I make these dreams come true? How do I prevent the fear of failure from stopping me?”

Breathe deeply and accept that fear is natural. It is your rational mind talking to you. Congratulate yourself for being human.

Then take the next crucial step: Plan and Act

Do you want to quit your job and start your own business? Do you wish you could spend less time at work and more time with your family and friends?

Do you have a hobby or passion that you wish you could pursue and earn enough income from it so you can leave your current job?

These were all just dreams for me years ago – but it’s now a reality for me. And you can do it too.

Stop being paralyzed by your fears and start planning.

Make a list of small things that you can do to bridge the gap between your reality and your dreams.

One baby step at a time, take yourself closer to your goals. Focus on progress, not perfection.

Start your journey and ask yourself…

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
