How To Find Your True Passion in Life

Find your passion and do what you love. It will bring you happiness and success. Indeed, I believe that is true.

But how do you find your passion? How do you know what it is that you truly love? For most people, discovering their true passion in life doesn’t come easy.

Our family and friends continuously influence us; society’s demands and pressures keep us busy, and sadly, our desire to meet the expectations of others can steer us away from what really gives us meaning and purpose.

When this happens, how do you go back and rediscover the things that make you happy?

Today, get ready to set everyone else aside and just focus on what’s there inside you.

Here’s my personal guide on how you can find (once again) your true passion in life.

Start by asking yourself these questions:

  • What were you good at in school?
  • When you enter a bookstore, which section do you stay the longest?
  • When you’re bored, what do you daydream about?
  • What topic can you talk about for hours with someone you just met?
  • What are you willing to do for others for free?

List down all your answers to these questions, and you will have a general idea of what excites you in life. These are your natural talents, skills, and interests – the things that you simply love.

Some of the items may be unrealistic, i.e., when you’re bored – you daydream that you’re Superman, but it’s all part of the discovery process. Your passion could be buried so deep inside you that you may need to go through several layers of consciousness just to find it.

Just like my friend, who daydreams that he’s Superman when he’s stuck in traffic. But NOT because he wants to be a crime-fighting superhero but because he realizes that his true passion is his family. He wants to be Superman so he can go home faster and be with his wife and kids already.

Your passions are your choices.

Study your list and understand that those are real opportunities that could help bring some positive changes in your life. Narrow down your list. See the overlaps and make it more concise.

Your aptitude in History during high school could very well mix with your fascination with biography books. Or your willingness to help friends with their party planning does overlap with your urge to talk about nice restaurants you’ve been to with people you just met.

Find the time and learn.

By this time, there will be one or two things that will stand out on your list. This could very well be your true passion.

And the next natural step is to find the time to do something about it. Keep in mind that it’s never wrong to learn and pursue something that you love doing. And never let fear, ignorance, and self-doubt hold you back.

Feed your curiosity. Read more. Take classes. Experiment on weekends. Try it out and see if you like it… NO… see if you LOVE it – and more often than not, you will.

Final Thoughts

The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play. This is a slow process, as it should be, because anything worth doing takes time.

As you get better at it, and the more you have fun doing it, opportunities will manifest, and you’ll soon find people who will be willing to pay you to do what you love.

Making a living out of your true life passion is a dream, but with enough focus, persistence, and hard work, that dream could someday be your reality.

Just like my Superman-daydreaming friend who spends several hours browsing through tech magazines in bookstores… he is now busy creating a home-based business buying and selling electronic gadgets online.

It’s a simple first step, but I can tell he’s enjoying every minute of it.

  9. Wow! That is really what I need! Ang hirap kapag nasa middle life crisis ka. I still can’t find what I love most. I want to wake up in the morning with the feeling of energy and excitement when I go to the office. But sadly, up to now, it still doesn’t happen. 🙁

  19. I love teaching students, I’m gonna be a university professor. Thank you for making me realized my full potential and real passion. I know I always wanted this but along the way, I got distracted by social pressures and environmental factors. After reading this (particularly after answering the questions above), I came to fully understand that all I really want is to TEACH!

I can tell Job Hunting is my passion.I enjoyed applying for a job and I didnt care if i got rejected.Kahit nakailang Job interview na ako kinakabahn pa rin ako at during interview nmg sweating at mag voice craking pa pag sumagot ng mga question.Hindi ako ngkaramdam ng pagod para mag apply ng job. When I got hire I only work for few monhts noong ng local pa ako. Pag ayaw na aalis na nmn sa company para mag apply ng iba. Daming reason, looking for better salary, ayaw yong amo, ayaw yong mga kasama sa work, wala na sa scope yong panapagawa, di kaya yong pressure sa work, walang ng natutunan, para nmn makasubok sa iba ang dami reason talga.Hanggang matanong ko sa sarili ko ano ba talga? Pero pag nag apply ako ng Job feeling ko masaya. We back year 2007 to 2008 nakapag work ako ng 3 companies sa local pero tig ilang months lang yon. Yong pinapasokan ko ng weeks lang hindi ko nlang sinama sa 3 companies na yan.ahehe. Hangga dumating yong time na may agency tumawag Job interiveiw daw para saudi, ang inisip ko non masubukan nga mgpa interivew ng Ibang national pero never ko sa isip ng mag abroad ako para kikita ng malaki laki. Eh sinwerte ako sa interiveiw hindi ko na inisip yong offer. Ang sa akin matingnan ko kung anong meron sa ibang bansa at saka mapilitan mag work. Hindi maka alis agad pag ayaw na sa work. I told myself that time nothing will happen to me I will not get a job. Naka 15 months din ako noon. I thought na overcome ko na yong pagka mainipin sa work. finish yong contract ko non na extend pa ng 3 months. After non, naka 3 companies pa ko. meron 7mos, meron 6, at saka 4mos. Gues what Im now working again with my first company here in abroad im planning by may 2014 mag exit na nmn ako.. For that reason my 7 year Gf broke up with cause she ddint saw a brighter future with me.IM SEEKING ADVICES ON HOW I CAN PREPARE NOW FOR MY FUTURE. Which I have this problem I cannot stay very long in one company. Thanks in Advance.

    I daydream about traveling around the country and the rest of the world.

    Food

    What are you willing to do for others for free?
    Experiment on a recipe/Proof reading letters…Do I even make sense? :/
