BDJ Fair 2012: Flex Your Money Muscles

Updated: October 15, 2012

Over the weekend, I was invited to speak at the Belle De Jour Fair for 2012.

Held at the Mall Of Asia Music Hall, the event was well attended by the members of the BDJ community who I really enjoyed participating in the activity booths and listening to the interesting talks the whole day.

This year’s theme is Limitless! – and emphasized on each individual’s unlimited potential.

The program for the day included Krav Maga sessions, fashion and beauty tips from experts, and personal development techniques. Some of the speakers for the day included Tricia Gosingtian, Georgina Wilson, Erica Paredes, Divine Lee and PJ Lanot.

Yup! I couldn’t believe I had the opportunity to share the stage with these celebrities!

Anyway, during my session about “Life Lessons”, I gave a talk on how to properly start your way to earning “limitless wealth”.

And below, I’d like to share my slide presentation, entitled “Flex Your Money Muscles“.

My presentation mainly focused on the two main things you need to do to have a healthy financial life.

First, a proper budget plan. And second, a regular investing habit.

I compared those two things to “eating a balanced diet” and “doing regular exercise”, which are your two basic necessities to maintain a healthy body.

Moreover, I talked about the importance of having an emergency fund, and explained what inflation is and why people need to invest and not just save.

I made an analogy on exercise and investing… I shared that:

  • In exercise:
    • Each individual has different physical goals… some want to lose weight, some to gain mass, others to train for a sport, etc.
    • For each objective… you need to make a customized exercise plan, and do that regularly.
  • In investing:
    • Each person’s financial goals are different… some want to get rid of debt, some to get business capital, others to save for retirement, etc.
    • For each objective… you need to make a personal investment plan, and do that regularly.

I emphasized that there is no straightforward formula to investing because each one of us are different. And the best way to know and design your own personal financial plan, is to take the time to study and learn about investing.

I ended the talk with a variation of the famous anonymous quote on entrepreneurship, and shared that:

Financial freedom means living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.

The first time I saw a Belle De Jour planner was two years ago and I can say that it’s a very well-thought product that makes a great gift to yourself and your friends.

While it’s mainly designed for women, I can honestly say that men can learn a thing or two from the things written inside, because it’s more than just a planner – it’s a life guide for the year ahead.

Personally, my favorite is the NAVI planner, or what they call “The Life Navigator” because it makes easy organization for my travel plans. πŸ˜‰
