I would loved to have asked these gentlemen what if any hedging & bear market tools they may have access to in the bank that individual investors may not. We all know that there are no inverse ETFs listed on the PSE and I know there is no option exchange in the Philippines for protecting your profit with options. While individuals may set a protective stop to get out of a position that can be problematic in a fast moving market.
It would not surprise me to learn that fund managers have access to products the DIY crowd does not. I will share that in the ” old days” before formal option exchanges existed, there were similar contracts executed outside of the stock exchanges by the “big boys.” Beginning in 1973 the US made options a “legit” product with the creation of our first official options exchange. I am sure the story is more or less the same in other countries with options exchanges.
