12 Non-Money-Related Things To Do That Will Help You Become Rich This Year

Updated: January 3, 2022

What are your new year’s resolutions? If you’ve been struggling financially, then I’m sure saving more money and spending less are part of your list.

Today, I’m offering you twelve things you can do to help you achieve those and hopefully more because this list is all about making yourself better so you can do more and earn more.

They’re the things I’ve done in the past and I can guarantee that doing these non-money-related habits will help grow your wealth this year.

1. Learn the habit of reading

It’s more convenient to watch educational videos or listen to informative podcasts, but these media are hard to produce – which means that if you’re not reading, then you’re missing out on the wealth of information that’s being shared by experts who can only afford to write. So read more books, magazines, websites, and blogs.

2. Be more open-minded but critical

Our biases can sometimes limit the opportunities that we can discover. This year, be more open-minded about new ideas and listen to others with perspectives that are different from yours. Listen and understand, but don’t be gullible. Stay critical and learn to sort out good ideas from the bad.

3. Establish daily, weekly, and monthly routines.

Our willpower is limited, that’s why you should not use it unnecessarily. If you can establish routines in your life, then there will be fewer decisions to make on trivial matters such as where to eat, what to wear, or what to do during weekends. Conserve brain power so you can use as much of it for important matters such as financial planning or business development.

4. Exercise regularly and make healthier food choices.

A fit body and a healthy lifestyle will boost your productivity and creativity – thus making you more effective at work, so you can get things done, and more efficient in abstract and critical thinking, such as generating business ideas or analyzing investment strategies.

5. Work harder than everyone else.

Unless you’re surrounded by millionaires, you need to work harder than the people around you because if your efforts are only as good as theirs, then you won’t achieve anything greater than what they already have. If you don’t want to be average, then walk the extra mile and work for that financial freedom that you deserve.

6. Stop pleasing everybody and stop telling everyone your story.

Nobody will understand your actions better than yourself, and you don’t owe anyone an explanation of your life’s choices. The only ones that matter are those you love, so stop caring about what other people think, and just quietly do what you need to do for yourself and your loved ones.

7. Spend less time on your mobile phone.

It’s easy to lose track of time when you’re on your smartphone. Start optimizing your gadget use and stop the mindless scrolling on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; hoping to find something interesting. Put your phone down, look up, be in the present moment, and enjoy what’s around you instead.

8. Start a creative hobby.

One of the best decisions I’ve made last year was to be more active on Instagram, which became my primary outlet for creativity. You need to nurture your artistic side because it exercises your imagination, which can lead you to discover new or innovative ideas later on.

9. Make time for rest, relaxation, and meditation.

Driving yourself to exhaustion is not the best way to achieve wealth. What good will your money be if it will be spent on medication and hospital bills, right? So make sure you get enough sleep, schedule days when you can just have fun, and practice mindfulness every day.

10. Join an organization or community.

Opportunities are always attached to people, so if you want to encounter new and better opportunities in your life, then you need to expand your network. And the easiest way to do this is to join organizations or community groups that pursue your hobby, advocacy, or interest.

11. Ruthlessly prioritize your goals.

Life is full of distractions, interruptions, and random circumstances that will slow you down or get you off your path towards your dreams. It’s time to take control by always asking if what you’re doing or about to do will take you closer to your goals. If not, then stop and do something that will.

12. Believe in yourself more.

Achievement starts with believing that you can. If you’re low on motivation and inspiration, then boost your confidence by looking in the mirror and giving yourself some pep talk. Make affirmations a habit and you’ll begin to see yourself as more capable of success.

  1. Thank you sir for the insights, the best way yo start the new year. Please continue inspiring other people.

  2. Thanks for the ideas. Really appreciate putting into words what i wish to do this new year. Keep it coming.

  3. Agreed with number one the most. The habit of reading and learning will open up unlimited possibilities…

    …and is that Kokonoe Rin?

  4. Perhaps it is the generation I belong to but my idea of a phone has a wire leading to the wall. When my wife was still setting up our business. two cellphones would not last a full day on the road. She “borrowed” mine and used it until one day, it was lost. That was a couple of years ago. I have NEVER replaced it and honestly do NOT miss it. I trade the US stock and option markets at night from our home in Bulacan. I read a lot about potential opportunities and world events. I happily watch the business idea my wife brewed up grow and prosper. Honestly, I do NOT want and have NO need to be distracted by a vibrating device in my pocket. All great points in this article.
